FESTIVAL SURVIVAL GUIDE

‘Tis the season for festivals! If you’re a festival head you may already know what’s up but for anyone who will be going to their first festival this year or if you can never make it to kick-ons after Laneway please enjoy our top survival tips.

ONE DAY FESTIVALS

Alcohol

Getting it in - tape is your best friend! Also, spanks and flowy clothing. A trio for confiscation free entry into the festival of your choice. If going for the first option and what I did recently, tape your alcohol to your inner thigh. This was actually a hot tip from a security guard I met outside BWS Bendigo, shout out to you!
Buying it - take cash. Buy at least 2 drinks at once, every time you go to the bar. HOT TIP: If you successfully execute getting it in, just buy a PowerAde and mix for your very own festival cocktail. (Much cheaper)

Bag

Whichever bag you choose to take with you to your festival, make sure its big enough to carry all your essentials (phone, portable charger, pain medication, wallet) but small enough that it won't hit the 6ft6 guy in the head when he puts you on his shoulders. My bag recommendations would be a small weather-proof cross body bag (no canvas) or a bumbag - yes, I do agree not the most fashionable but it gives you SO much freedom to move, you won't regret it.

Essentials

Okay, let's bring it back to the 'essentials'. When going to a one-day festival, I won’t leave my house without my:

Phone - obviously.
Portable phone charger - this is so important for so many reasons; snapchat stories, staying in contact with your friends and entertainment on the way there and back.
Pain Medication - To cure that day drinking headache, pop 2 in the back of an uber on your way to the after party (Disclaimer: only take when needed)
Wallet - not your whole wallet with your uni ID and Smooth E loyalty card. Just your ID, Eftpos card, some cash and key card for where you're staying.
Footwear - Boots or sneakers. For me, there's really no other choice.

CAMPING FESTIVALS

All of the above tips still equally benefit you at a camping festival, however, there are a few extra things you should know.

Showering - The showers/toilets at a camping festival can get pretty gross, especially if it's rained at all over the 3 days. So girl, baby wipes are your new best friend. Great for cleaning and listening to your boy issues

Campsite - Make it stand out! With fairy lights, flags or balloon letters. Something that will guide you back to your sleeping bag when you are blind after the countdown.

Be prepared for the weather - Whether this means rain ponchos and gum boots or paper fans and sweat-proof makeup. Make sure you check the trusty weather app on your phone and pack accordingly

As much as you'll hate this..wait in the queues - Queues to eat, pee and get your car checked Finally, remember you're never fully dressed without some glitter!
